Travel: Add the connection from the palace to Anguk.

Before you set off

Gyeongbokgung normally closes Tuesday; check holiday and seasonal hours. Ordinary adult entry KRW 3000. Hanbok rental adds its own price, fitting and return time. Bukchon residential Red Zone visits are restricted to 10:00โ€“17:00.

    Gyeongbokgung

Allow 90 minutes inside. Rent hanbok only if you want the experience and can meet the shop return deadline; a rental is not a saving on KRW 3000 admission.

    Onion Anguk

Choose a pastry and coffee if the wait fits; use another open Anguk cafe if not.

Running short? Stop here.

Drop the cafe queue if the palace visit runs long.

If conditions change

Choose the National Museum of Korea for a two-hour indoor visit; add travel and check opening.

What to skip

Do not add Bukchon before 10:00 or after 17:00, and do not stack another district onto a tight return.

Plan the return

Set your accommodation as the start and end of the outing. Check both journeys, waiting and any connections before leaving. Set a leave-by alarm that gets you back with time for rest and preparation before your required crew pickup. Cut the extra stop if the return becomes uncertain. Three usable hours minus the 2 hr 30 min palace/cafe outing leaves only 30 minutes for all travel and queues. Shorten the outing if your actual accommodation journeys do not fit; protect rest and preparation separately.

Transit context

Myeongdong / Jongno orientation โ€” both are central and subway-connected; Myeongdong is shopping-heavy, while Jongno is calmer and better for palaces and traditional streets.

Local words
hanok = traditional Korean housejjimjilbang = Korean bathhouse/spachimaek = fried chicken and beerbanchan = side dishes.
  • Best use: Choose palace architecture on a first visit, a market meal when appetite leads, or two focused museum collections on a return visit. Check the journey from your accommodation before choosing.
  • Starting point: Myeongdong and Jongno are useful city destinations; set your own accommodation as origin.
  • Big mistake: Relying on Google Maps only. Use Naver Map or KakaoMap for local navigation.
  • What to skip: DMZ, far hikes, and multi-district shopping crawls on a 24-hour layover.

Getting back before pickup

Set your accommodation as the start and end of the outing. Check both journeys, waiting and any connections before leaving. Set a leave-by alarm that gets you back with time for rest and preparation before your required crew pickup. Cut the extra stop if the return becomes uncertain.

  • Maps: Set up Naver Map or KakaoMap, save your destination in Korean as well as English, and keep the return address offline.

  • Payment: Carry cash for stalls and physical-card top-ups; ask about payment before ordering. A shop accepting your bank card does not establish that a transit machine will accept it.

  • Tmoney: A physical card is a useful fallback. International iPhone visitors with a supported Mastercard can use the Mobile Tmoney app and Apple Pay to top up; this is a specific app/card route, not a promise that any foreign card added directly in Wallet will work. Check device support and fees, and test a small top-up before relying on it.
