Transit context

Heathrow-side vs central London is the key split. If airport-side, the Elizabeth Line and Piccadilly Line determine whether central London is worth it; if central, plan around the nearest Tube/Elizabeth Line station and your report-time buffer.

  • Piccadilly Line: The default from Heathrow when time is not the absolute constraint. Slow but cheap, direct, and reliable enough if you build the buffer.
  • Elizabeth Line: The cleaner move for Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon, Liverpool Street, and east London.
  • Late return: Tube shuts down around midnight most nights; Night Tube helps Friday/Saturday. After a weekday Soho night, budget for Bolt/Uber back.
  • Money: London is contactless-first. Your bank card works on TfL. Pay in GBP, avoid dynamic currency conversion, and check restaurant bills for service charge.

Go eSIM (Airalo). UK coverage on Three/EE networks is solid. Heathrow has SIM shops but the queue and activation time isn't worth it on a 24h layover. Activate Airalo before landing and you're connected at the gate.
