- Old City: T1 tram is the simplest route for Karakoy, Eminonu, Sultanahmet, and Beyazit/Grand Bazaar.
- Asian side: Marmaray is the fast crossing; public ferries are the scenic crossing.
- Ferries: A public Bosphorus ferry can be the best-value experience in the city. Use it deliberately, not as an afterthought.
- Ride apps: BiTaksi and Uber are useful in the city. Confirm the meter or in-app price and avoid informal fixed fares.
- Cash: Carry Turkish lira for small food, markets, bazaars, hammam tips, and smaller shops.
- Cards: Cards work in most modern restaurants and malls, but do not assume market stalls or old shops will take them.
- Currency rule: Pay in TRY, not USD or EUR, unless you have checked the rate.
