Colombo 3 / Colombo 7 orientation — Kollupitiya is useful for seafront food and Galle Face, while Cinnamon Gardens is quieter and better for museums, galleries, and cafe breaks.
- Airport: Bandaranaike International Airport is far from central Colombo. Use a prearranged car, app car where available, or official taxi counter, not a random driver.
- PickMe: PickMe is often cheaper and denser than Uber in Colombo. It is the easiest way to avoid inflated tuk-tuk quotes.
- Tuk-tuks: Use app fares when possible. If you use a street tuk-tuk, agree the price before moving.
- Cash: Keep small LKR notes for tuk-tuks, temples, markets, and small food stops. Cards work at hotels, malls, and stronger restaurants.
- Markets: Pettah is useful but busy. Keep valuables close and treat bargaining as normal, not hostile.
- Weather: Heavy rain can change the route quickly. Have a dry indoor fallback such as Barefoot, a cafe, or a hotel spa.
